Basic Facts about Army

Dear fellows, I'm going to share few basic organizational structures of Army. Though this post doesn't contain significant importance to most of us, but just in case one might find it read-worthy, hence my effort goes.

# Platoon : The smallest Army Unit commanded by an Officer is a Platoon [Plt]. A Platoon's commanded by an Officer of the rank of Lieutenant [Lt] or 2nd-Lieutenant [2Lt]. In several countries, i.e.- Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Platoons're commanded by Junior Commissioned Officers [JCO]. On the other hand, some specialized Platoons might be commanded by a Captain.
An Infantry (foot-soldier) Platoon's strength varies from 20-to-45 men/soldiers. Usually a Platoon's subdivided in to 2-to-3 Sections or Squads.

# Company : 3 or more Platoons form a Company. Usually an Officer of the rank of Major or Captain commands a Company. The manpower of an Infantry Company ranges between 90-to-150+ soldiers. Whereas the equivalent of Company in an Artillery unit is called "Battery", which conventionally consists of 6-cannons/guns. In the Armored Corps, such units're referred as "Squadron" of 10-to-14 Tanks.

# Battalion : A Battalion is composed of 3-to-5 Companies and it's commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel [Lt Col]. In Artillery as well as in Armored, the Battalions are named as "Regiments". An Artillery Regiment may have 18 guns/cannons and an Armored Regiment operates 44 Tanks (in Bangladesh Army).

I hope to further continue this post. Meanwhile any enthusiastic can visit Military Units for detailed information on this regard.

Thank you.
